‘The Conference of the Birds’
by MONKEYBIRD
235 Lee Street/Montgomery Alabama
MONKEYBIRD is a French street art duo known for their detailed hand-cut stencils and use of symbolic animal figures in their work. The mural above was inspired by the 12th-century Persian poem, "Conference of the Birds", by Farid-Al-Din Attar. The poem tells the story of a group of birds on a journey to find a legendary king, only to realize that the wisdom they seek has been within them all along. It serves as a powerful metaphor for self-discovery, perseverance, and unity in the search for truth.
Through intricate layers of symbols and architectural elements, MONKEYBIRD brings this ancient story into the present, tying it to the City of Montgomery’s ongoing evolution. Look closely, and you’ll find references to the city woven into the design—like the Wright Brothers' plane, a nod to the flight school Wilbur Wright established here in 1910, which later became Maxwell Air Force Base. "The Conference of the Birds" is MONKEYBIRD'S first mural in the United States, and MAP360 is proud to have brought their work to Alabama, adding a new chapter to the city’s public art landscape.
This mural was made possible with special thanks to Jake Kyser and the Kyser Family Partnership LTD, who provided this exterior wall for the commission.
