DNA

by JonOne

In 2023, JonOne came to Montgomery to create art in America again for the first time in 36 years. He spent time engaging students at local schools and ultimately created DNA, a vibrant mural covering the side of the former Flame grill at the corner of Lee and Montgomery Street. Working with bold strokes and a dynamic color palette, JonOne maneuvered the wall with fluidity, layering his expressive marks to create a rhythmic, almost musical composition.

While much of JonOne’s work invites open interpretation, DNA carries a deliberate message: a reflection on identity, movement, and the interconnectedness of communities. “This mural is about the energy that binds us together—our shared history, our creativity, our aspirations,” he explained.

JonOne arrived in Montgomery with a general concept in mind, but after immersing himself in the city’s landscape and history, he infused DNA with an even deeper sense of place. The final piece pulses with life, echoing both the struggles and triumphs woven into Montgomery’s story.

This mural was made possible with special thanks to ELSAJA  Dexter Holdings, who provided the  exterior wall for the commission.
